Steve Landon | Class of 1964

During Steve’s senior year at Reicher, he was named to the 1st team Catholic High School All-American Team by the Chicago Archdiocese Newspaper.

In his junior year, he led Reicher to its first victory over Jesuit High and to their 1st State Championship in the Texas Catholic Interscholastic League. This league was composed of the largest Catholic Schools in Texas. Reicher was by far the smallest school in the league. Reicher had less that 80 boys in high school and beat schools like Jesuit, Nolan, Central Catholic and St. Thomas who had five to 10 times more boys.

In his senior year, he led Reicher to the only undefeated team in school history, again winning the State Championship for the second year in a row. He rushed for 126 yards in the State Championship game. He led Central Texas area in scoring and he rushed and passed for more than 2500 yards during his senior year. He was named to the Waco Tribune Herald’s Super Centex team.

He received football scholarship offers from Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Texas Tech, SMU, Rice, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Tulane, the Naval Academy, and Notre Dame. He accepted a scholarship to TCU. In those days, freshmen did not play on the varsity. In his freshmen year he was named to the Freshman All-SWC team. In his game against Texas Tech, he rushed for more than 165 yards, scored two touchdowns and his play was voted as one of the outstanding performances in the NCAA that week. He was voted to the SWC and All American Academic teams in 1965.

Between his Sophomore and Junior years at TCU, he married Cathy. After graduation, like many then, Steve joined the Air Force during the Viet Nam War. He worked 33 years for AT&T and retired as Director of Operations for the North Texas Region. Then Governor Bush appointed Steve to the State One Call Board as Chairperson of this State appointment. He served in that capacity for 10 years. Since his retirement from AT&T, he served as Director of Personnel for the Catholic Diocese of Ft. Worth.

Currently, he is Director of Parish Operations for Good Shepherd Catholic Community in Colleyville, Texas. Steve and Cathy have three lovely daughters and three grandsons. He continues to support Reicher and cherishes his days at the school
