Art One is a general introduction to art based on understanding and application of the
fundamentals of the art elements (color, texture, form, line, space, value) and the
principles of design (emphasis, pattern, rhythm, balance, proportion, unity). The Art
One student will illustrate ideas for artworks from direct observation, experiences, and
imagination in creating personal artworks in the areas of drawing, painting, design,
printmaking and ceramics. Students will demonstrate an understanding of art history
and describe general characteristics in artworks from a variety of cultures and make
informed judgments about personal artworks and the artworks of others. |

The Art Two student increases skills in creating practical applications, and select from
a variety of art media and tools to communicate specific ideas in drawing, painting,
printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, and computer graphics in such areas as still life,
figure, perspective and landscape. The student develops and organizes ideas while
increasing drawing skills in the creation of original artworks designed to formulate
multiple solutions while expanding personal themes demonstrating intent. The
student will demonstrate an understanding of art history and culture as records of
human achievement. |

This course is recommended for the serious art student interested in a progressive indepth
study who may wish to take a later course for Advanced Placement credit
and/or pursue art as a course of further study or a career. The student will prepare a
portfolio of original art works illustrating flexibility in solving problems, creating
multiple solutions, and thinking imaginatively. Art 3 students will increase skills by
selecting from a variety of art media and tools to express intent in drawing, painting,
printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, as well as computer graphics. The student will
demonstrate an understanding of art history and culture as records of human
achievement. |

The Advanced Placement (AP) Studio Art Program enables highly motivated students to
do college level work in studio art while still in high school. Taken for college credit as
an advanced placement course, each student is aided in the preparation of a portfolio
for review by the College Board. Candidates are required to produce a portfolio
featuring sections of quality, breadth and a concentration. These students are
preparing for professional development and/or a career in an art related field. Content
requirements are prescribed in the College Board Publication Advanced Placement
Course Description published by the College Board. |

This course aims to develop an appreciation of instrumental music. Students will be
introduced to an instrument and will attain the ability to perform before an audience
as well as learn the mechanics and interpretations of a wide variety of music. They
will be taught proper care and maintenance of the instrument and be expected to
perform in a minimum two public concerts a year. After school and night time
practices may be required, as well as participation in half-time performances during
football season, special Reicher functions and parades.

Spirit, Mind, Body Voice
It takes a whole person to sing and rejoice!
The Reicher Choir is an eclectic ensemble that performs a variety of music to serve the
community as worship leading and our audiences as choral entertainers. Students
receive systematic sequential instruction in vocal technique, sightreading and
repertoire with the intent of developing musically literate vocal artists. No prior
experience is necessary; however, pitch-matching ability is highly preferred. As a
course requirement, all RCHS Choir members will perform on all scheduled concerts,
events and competitions. |
Theatre Arts*

Theater Arts is a performance-based class designed to introduce students to various
aspects of theater. Students will develop acing skills through character development
and analysis, monologue presentations, duet acting and performance in non-musical
and musical plays. The second semester will be devoted to performing and producing a
Broadway-based musical. The technical aspects of theater will be introduced through
script writing and analysis, set design and construction, and crew detail through
preparation and application in a live performance setting. The course also includes
study of the historic evolution of the theater from the Renaissance era to present day.

This course is a performance-based class introducing students to the art of movement
through the dance genres of Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Theatrical and Social (Ballroom).
Technical skills and a vocabulary of dance will be developed using warm-up exercises,
short combinations and full routines. Performance opportunities may be provided
through showcases at Christmas and in the spring. A second year of dance will
continue and advance the techniques and terminology from year 1 with the addition
and exploration of improvisational skills.
